So there's been quite a bit of insanity in the first half of Saturday's 60/60 Super Sprint.

Shane van Gisbergen turned David Reynolds and Will Davison in the same lap bringing out a caution for debris on lap 9.

Alex Premat and James Courtney were both involved in a nasty accident on the Lap 13 restart at turn 4 that was reminiscent of last year's accident between Will Davison and Jamie Whincup. Premat slid wide leaving at the exit of turn 3 and was along for the ride. Coming back on to the racing surface the car launched airborne into the side of Courtney, crushing the driver's side of the car. Premat helped Courtney out of the opposite side of the car before the medical team could help Courtney hobble into the safety vehicle for evaluation. After evaluation the medical team found soft tissue damage - no broken bones. Courtney was very lucky.

Mark Winterbottom and Craig Lowndes came together on the final corner of the final lap trying to force the issue for the lead ending the half. Both headed in to halftime with steering issues.

UPDATE: Tander took the checkered in a less violent second half, with some good squabbling over the 2nd-10 spots.

The incidents involving Shane van Gisbergen, and Mark Winterbottom and Craig Lowndes are under investigation and any penalties will be levied shortly.

Unofficial results:

1. Tander

2. Coulthard

3. A. Davison

4. Whincup

5. Winterbottom

6. Blanchard

7. van Gisbergen

8. Lowndes

9. Mostert

10. Caruso

It took a little bit of review of the bottom picture to understand it. "Courtney was very lucky". Wow, that's for sure. The impact on the drivers side of the cage exceeded its caging ability.

Yeah sorry about that, that's the best angle from the inside that 7 sport had after the accident.
